Initially, this was a childish desire based on her fondness of the color—like her hair and eyes—and a love for stories of dashing knights slaying evil dragons. It wasn’t until she was in her teens that her mother Alanathria informed her that becoming a Purple Dragon Knight first required one to be a soldier in the army of Cormyr, a human kingdom to the southwest. She soon turned her attention to becoming a knight of her home city of Myth Drannor, only to quickly learn from her laughing father Solaudril that the Knights of Myth Drannor was the name of an adventuring company also originally based out of Cormyr. When Verana was barely twenty, the entire island nation of Evermeet was shifted into Faerie, the plane from which the elven people had originated several millennia ago. Queen Amlaruil died from the strain of enacting that great transportation, and Verana and her fellow ward Azariah were then shuffled among multiple instructors and tutors. Overall, life in Faerie—the Feywild—wasn’t much different for the people of Evermeet: they were isolated on Toril, and remained so in their new plane. On Toril, the elves insulated themselves against non-elves, but in the Feywild, many of the archfey, leShay, and eladrin of the plane held themselves apart from the elves they considered to be “dangerously shortsighted”, but other eladrin and lesser fey were happy to interact with the “younger” elves.
