Sindra Brostilar
Sindra grew up in a tavern: her mother was a brewess and her father a skilled bartender, and the Wench and Drum was one of the most-frequented pubs in Arabel. Every night, a traveling minstrel or a local performer would regale the crowd with one tale of heroism or another, and Sindra would listen to every word and commit it to memory.
It didn’t take long before she realized how many of the songs were about the same stories or the same heroes. Weren’t there other heroes? Weren’t there other stories? When she asked this of a troubadour one evening, he laughed and said that audiences had their favorites, and a good entertainer knew to give the audience what they wanted. Sindra never thought that was right. Instead of giving the audience what they wanted, she thought, shouldn’t a minstrel give them what they never knew they wanted?
Sindra knew what she had to do: she had to find stories that had never been told before, set them to music, and let an audience hear something new. The trouble was finding those new stories, so when the opportunity came for her to join a trade caravan hauling several tuns of Bitter Black to faraway Candlekeep, Sindra quickly signed on and made her way to the legendary library.
When she finally got there, she learned she couldn’t gain access to “the good stuff” at the library without a suitable literary donation of her own. The solution for that, she decided, was to wander the Sword Coast and collect what stories she could, set those to music, and then compile a book of ballads to donate to the library in exchange for access to even more great stories.
Traits
“There’s no such thing as knowing too much, and no excuse for not trying your hardest. I have high standards, yes, but I’ll never expect something of another which I’m not willing to hold myself to first.”
Ideals
“Knowledge is power, and I will be mighty indeed.”
Bonds
“One of the nice things about books is that not only can you learn from reading them, you can also learn by pretending to read them and instead observing those around you.”
Flaws
“I’m the last to admit when I’m in the wrong because I’m never wrong.”
“I Know a Guy”
Sindra doesn’t really know anybody: she’s more interested in knowing things not people. She’s met merchants, traveling entertainers, and a few scholars, but no one that’s anyone. She’s pretty sure of that, anyway.
Friends & Enemies
Sindra doesn’t know anyone, and no one knows her. Not yet at least. She’s working on that.
