The Argents of Waterdeep have a history of service going back dozens of generations, having been the principal patron of the Spires of the Morning, the city’s magnificent temple to Lathander, god of dawn and renewal. It was said that when Aghairon became the first Open Lord, an Argent served as one of the first Masked Lords. When the Lathanderian Order of the Aster was formed, an Argent was one of the first paladins in their ranks, and whenever foes assailed the city’s walls, Argents stood among the ranks of the City Guard and soared overhead with the Griffon Cavalry.

Like most of her kin, it was never in question if Rena would serve her people but rather how. Though the Argents can trace their celestial heritage back multiple generations, Rena was only the second in the family to be born an aasimar, so it was nearly-certain that she would become a priest or a paladin, if not both, and she began both martial and ecclesiastical training almost as soon as she could walk and talk. Rena took to the former far more readily than she did the latter, and was soon made a page within the Order of the Aster. She quickly proved herself more-than capable, and was made a squire under the direct mentorship of the Edward Kerth, one of the commanders of the garrison at the Spires of the Morning.

Now that Rena has finished her training, she deferred taking her oath of knighthood, insisting that she was unproven and could not pledge her sword properly when she had never wielded it in the defense of the innocent. Though her father offered to get her an assignment in the City Guard, Rena decided she would join an adventuring company and follow a path of her own choosing.

Traits

“I would never lay claim to a leadership role where I had not been offered the position by others nor believed in my heart I deserved it. I’m very fond of children and small animals.”

Ideals

“A paladin cannot claim to be a champion of good if their service is not to all of goodly disposition regardless of who they choose to worship.”

Bonds

“My family has served Waterdeep for over 500 years, and I will gladly do the same.”

Flaws

“I’m always second-guessing myself.”

“I Know a Guy”

Rena’s father Garelion is a captain in the City Guard and her mother Olivia is a bardic cantor at the Spires of the Morning. Additionally, Rena has an aunt who is a paladin, an uncle who is a priest, and two cousins serving as knights of the Order of the Aster.

Friends & Enemies

Like many Lathanderians, the Argents are particularly despised by worshippers of Shar, Talos, and Cyric. Further, due to the enmity between their patron gods, worshippers of Helm are often uncooperative with the Morninglord’s faithful.
