Qantriel Danfaez
When Qantriel was a child, Matea Mindael used to tell her that she’d been born in the wrong century, which always sounded silly, but then Matea Mindael was a silly old woman who looked after children who didn’t have mateas or fatras of their own. Eventually Qantriel came to understand that the “right” century had ended only twenty years previously: the half-drow Crinti ruling class of Dambrath were overthrown by the Arkaiuns they’d cruelly ruled over for a thousand years, which is why the once-glamorous city of Prastuil was half in ruins and full of Crinti orphans.
As she grew, Qantriel found she had a knack for moving unheard and unseen, and her skills were put to work as a burglar for a self-styled thieves’ guild. One day, she slipped into the rented room of a sun elf so old, he was actually wrinkled. Startled to see such an ancient elf, the young thief forgot herself entirely and blurted, “How old are you?”
“How old are you?” he countered with a chuckle.
His name was Laetheros, and he was a scholar who had dedicated his life to uncovering the truth of what he called “the Great Wrong”: the transformation of dark elves into drow at the end of the Fourth Crown War. Intrigued to learn of another long-ago era when her dark-skinned kin ruled over surface lands in Faerûn, Qantriel visited the sage every day, and when Laetheros left Prastuil to explore ancient ruins of the dark elven realm of Ilythiir, Qantriel went with him.
The odd pair eventually parted ways after promising to reunite for more elven ruin-delving in northern Faerûn.
Traits
“I never owned anything growing up, so I’m not attached to material things even now. I’m impatient when I’m bored.”
Ideals
“I can pass for the half-human child of a moon elf, but I’d love to simply belong somewhere.”
Bonds
“I’m fascinated by the history of my dark elf ancestors, though I’m not sure how I feel about their descendants.”
Flaws
“When faced with an intriguing puzzle, I’m distracted to the point I completely lose track of time.”
“I Know a Guy”
Laetheros is a powerful wizard, though Qantriel has no way to contact him directly. He has pledged to meet her in “the splendid library in Rhymanthiin” one day, though she has yet to find that name on any map.
Friends & Enemies
Qantriel technically left without permission from her bosses at the thieves’ guild, but that shouldn’t be a problem since Waterdeep is nearly half a world away from Prastuil. She’s pretty sure they’ve forgotten her by now, and even if they haven’t, she has no reason to go back to the city of her birth after all these years.
