Nalya has no idea who her real parents are, but that never really mattered when she was a child, because she had the Family. Every summer, the Family traveled from their compound in the foothills of the Nether Mountains down the River Rauvin to Everlund, then followed the Evermoor Way west. They’d spend a tenday at each village and town before heading to the next, bringing frivolity and joy with them at each stop. After leaving Triboar, they left the road to go into the Starmetal Hills. There, Grandfather would sweep his walking stick around in a huge circle and make a door in a cliff wall. When the Family drove their wagons through it, they were back in the foothills of the Nether Mountains again to rest and prepare for another season.

Not all was as it seemed, and before Nalya had reached her teens, she had run away from the Family. She stayed with the proprietor of the Calling Horns Inn, Tamalin Zoar, but she never felt at home there and returned to the town of Triboar. Traveling down the Evermoor Way alone should have been fraught with danger, but Nalya possessed strange magic that protected her even when she didn’t understand what was happening.

When she finally reached the end of the Evermoor Way, she found herself faced with an impossible decision, so she asked the townsfolk of Triboar what she should do. Of the few who’d talk to the strange-looking girl, some suggested she go north to seek out the Harpell wizards of Longsaddle, while others suggested the longer journey south to Waterdeep where she’d not only find teachers of magic but also other tieflings.

The best answer came from an elderly human couple: they suggested she live with them until she decided her course. She stayed for six years before the couple passed peacefully one after the other less than a month apart, after which the couple’s greedy son forced her out of the house. She then stayed with the Lord Protector, Darathra Shendrel, until the end of winter, and kept the couple’s name for herself as she joined a caravan heading south for Waterdeep.

Traits

“I know I look scary, and I enjoy how that keeps many from annoying me. I don’t like having my time wasted by others.”

“Exploiting others is no way to make a living.”

Bonds

“I’ve never fit in anywhere for long, so I’ve come to think of the road as my home.”

“I Know a Guy”

Darathra Shendrel may be the Lord Protector of Triboar now, but in her youth, she was a knight and an adventurer, and she still has many contacts in her native Waterdeep.

Friends & Enemies

Tamalin doesn’t just own the Calling Horns Inn, she owns the town of Calling Horns. Originally her family’s hunting villa, Tamalin built it into a proper settlement under the protection of her mercenary guards.
