Indariel was born to a pair of Knights in Silver who prayed to the elven goddess Angharradh, asking for a child who was similarly the best of them both, and for their devotion they were granted a magical torc which could alter one’s biological sex while it was worn, allowing the two women to conceive. Before Indariel had reached their twelfth birthday, they expressed to their parents that they sometimes felt they should also have been born female, so they were gifted the Angharradhan torc to wear when they felt that way, which turned out to be most of the time.

A few years later, their parents were killed defending a merchant caravan from a troll attack near the Evermoors. Feeling adrift without their parents’ guidance, Indariel spent time with their human mother’s family, but came to believe their relatives felt uncomfortable with Indariel’s elven heritage and fluid gender. They left soon after for their elven parent’s ancestral home in Cormanthor, where they visited shrines of the various elven deities, marveling at how the Seldarine did not hold tightly to either biological sex or gender roles as the human deities did. Through their journeys, they felt especially drawn toward Vandria Gilmadrith, the warrior goddess who championed grief, justice, and vigilance. Vandria’s aim was not the glorification of war, however, but preventing or shortening wars, which Indariel found especially admirable.

In their travels, they met a deaf monk from the Order of the Even-Handed who found a kindred spirit in Indariel and began to teach them a little of what he knew. However, as he was hardly a master, he encouraged them to travel to the order’s chapterhouse at the House of Two Hands in Waterdeep. Indariel did, and began to find peace in the discipline that they had not been able to find in their journey to the east.

Traits

“I am not one to express my emotions freely, but I am likely to intervene when someone is bullied for being different.”

Ideals

“The physical forms creatures inhabit are often not reflective of their true selves.”

Bonds

“My mentor Havelin has taught me so much about myself and how to better control my body and mind.”

Flaws

“I often find it very difficult to relate to others.”

“I Know a Guy”

Indariel’s mentor is Havelin Arithal, an eladrin monk with a fighting style unlike any others at the House of Two Hands. Havelin is not herself of the Order of the Even-Handed, but she has made a point of living for years among monks whose disciplines are different from her own in order to perfect her form.

Friends & Enemies

Indariel’s non-confrontational style has made them no known enemies, but also very few friends. Still, there are those among the Tyr-worshipping Even-Handed monks with whom they have engaged in a few friendly sparring matches, but also some who believe the chapterhouse should welcome Tyrrans only.
