Five Clouds at Midnight, “Midnight”
Midnight was named for the vision her mother had shortly before she had given birth. Watches Tomorrow’s Sky foresaw five clouds of darkness bringing destruction to the town of Port Llast in the deep hours of the night, and when Midnight was only nine, Sky proclaimed a group of adventurers who’d come to the inn as the unwitting heralds of doom. Many dismissed Sky’s warnings, as the five were heroes who’d saved the town from sahuagin many years earlier.
Dark elves attacked the town that night, killing two of the heroes and capturing the other three, taking both the living and the dead heroes away along with anyone in the town they deemed worthy of enslaving. Midnight had been hidden in the crawlspace of her mother’s cottage and had been one of the few Llastians not captured or killed.
Sky had not been among the survivors, but she had left her daughter with one final prophecy: “When darkness falls upon the port, follow the light of the dying sun.” Sky and Midnight had long assumed this meant that they should travel west across the Trackless Sea to their ancestral homeland of Maztica—if it hadn’t vanished during the Spellplague, as had happened to other lands—but on that night of darkness, Midnight had watched a sun die: a monk in yellow robes had fought brilliantly, killing a monstrous drider with his bare hands before he was killed and his body dragged away.
When the survivors reached Neverwinter, Midnight sold nearly everything she had carried out of the ruined town to buy passage to Waterdeep, then made her way to the Monastery of the Sun to join their order.

Ideals
“I am a light in darkness, and I will show others to a just path by my own example.”

“I am dedicated to the Order of the Sun Soul which has given me direction and purpose.”
Flaws
“I will not be dissuaded from any course I believe to be in pursuit of my destiny.”
“I Know a Guy”
Midnight wasn’t the only Llastian to sail to Waterdeep, and she’s maintained a friendship with Sarabel Cooper and her younger brother Phelan. Sarabel worked as a barmaid at the Singing Sword Tavern before marrying into a respected merchant family. Phelan joined the City Watch when he came of age, and he hopes to be selected for the Griffin Cavalry.
Friends & Enemies
Monks of the Order of the Sun Soul are not supposed to engage in rivalries except ones in which mutual respect pushes two initiates into greater achievements together than either could manage alone; however, Midnight’s rivalry with Daen Greywinter doesn’t involve any respect.
