Chiara Davibraxian
Chiara was the third in her family to join the Flaming Fist mercenaries as a city watchman for Baldur’s Gate, following her father and aunt into service. Things went well during her first few months of service, but after a disagreement with her sergeant over the arrest of a wealthy merchant’s daughter, Chiara was transferred to a garrison outside of the city to patrol the Coast Way. The transfer was considered by most to have been a punishment, but being out on the road and away from the politics of the city was refreshing.
For one thing, no one made stupid remarks to her face about how “dragons are supposed to be greedy” while attempting to bribe her to ignore a crime. For another, no one berated her about how she should just agree to let a rich woman walk away instead of arresting her for assaulting a prostitute.
Much to her family’s dismay, when Chiara’s enlistment contract came up for renewal, she instead signed on to guard a merchant’s caravan heading north to Waterdeep. It turned out to be a great decision: no one along the way was foolish enough to ask if she could use her dragon breath to light their balaumo cigar.
Rich people…
Traits
“I am even-handed and merciful, and while I gladly point out the faults of others, I am far less eager to admit to my own.”
Ideals
“No one is above the law no matter how rich and well-connected they might be.”
Bonds
“My honor and the honor of my clan is paramount; without honor, we possess nothing of value.”
Flaws
“I get very angry if I think anyone is impugning my honor, and I’ve been known to challenge them to a duel on the spot.”
“I Know a Guy”
Chiara’s father Brekus and her aunt Grazia are both members of the Flaming Fist, though Brekus will gladly admit Grazia is by far the superior fighter of the Davibraxian siblings. Chiara’s mother Shoresi was exiled from Clan Shestandeliath after becoming a priestess of Tyr, and since her duties to the temple interfered with rearing her female offspring, Grazia parented her brother’s hatchling. Chiara has a cordial but distant relationship with Shoresi.
Friends & Enemies
Chiara did not endear herself at all to the Harimont family when she arrested Sersha Harimont for beating a tiefling prostitute who refused her drunken advances. The scandal prompted outrage from her influential family—her father Ronin was a member of parliament—and Chiara was rebuked for having refused to accept the bribe the socialite offered, as was often customary for a Flaming Fist guard. The prostitute—whose name Chiara never caught—promised to repay her for her kindness, even though he apparently refused to press charges against Sersha later.
