Breeze from the Open Sea, “Breeze”
Breeze has always possessed a strange kind of luck. She was born under a full moon—an auspicious sign for a tabaxi—which fell that year on the quadrennial holiday of Shieldmeet. Breeze’s mother Mirala was a rug weaver of significant skill who had run away from the wealthy Hornswallow merchant family who had enslaved her. She gave birth while hiding in a windy cave overlooking the Sea of Swords and named the child in the fashion of their ancestors. Nearly a full day later, Hornswallow mercenaries found and recaptured the tabaxi, but even as Mirala taught her daughter how to weave the beautiful rugs the Hornswallows sold all over the world, she never let her forget: Breeze was born free.
A decade and a half later, Breeze found her own opportunity to escape while the Hornswallow family was distracted by the apparent loss at sea of the family’s second son. Laying a false trail to the southeast, Breeze fled north into the dangerous Cloud Peaks. The monster-infested mountains proved a challenge for the clever young tabaxi, and it took her over a ten-day to make her way through the range to the town of Nashkel. Her peculiar luck struck again: Jarun Hornswallow had somehow missed his ship’s departure from Baldur’s Gate, and had instead taken the road south, arriving in Nashkel the same day as Breeze.
Terrified she’d be recognized and captured by Hornswallow guards if she stayed, Breeze kept her head down and kept going north, eventually finding her way to Waterdeep.
Traits
“I know what it’s like to struggle to survive in the wilds, so I am happy to help others who need me and my skills. I am cautious about meeting strangers, and it takes a long time before I’ll consider anyone a friend.”
Ideals
“I value freedom and consider it my obligation to stop the powerful from tyrannizing the weak.”
Bonds
“I miss my mother and my people in Amn, but I have found new kindred living among the forests of the North.”
Flaws
“I can never get comfortable in any one place before I feel compelled to take to the road again.”
“I Know a Guy”
Breeze’s travels north took her through a number of off-the-beaten path areas. It’s not that Breeze knows a guy, she knows quite a few, including rangers, druids, and various fey creatures. As is usual with Breeze’s strange luck, she never knows when an ally will unexpectedly be near to lend hand, or conversely, be in need of a hand.
Friends & Enemies
The Hornswallows weren’t a particularly powerful merchant family in Amn, but their wealth could still buy them almost anything they desired. With word that Amn is again looking further north to Waterdeep for trade, Breeze is worried one day the tides will guide a Hornswallow ship into port.
